All 8 archetypes
The Architect
You build points on purpose. Balanced, deliberate, hard to leak against.
No obvious donation channel — opponents have to earn points against you.
Precision, not habits: which bandeja, which lob height, which moment to change pace.
Rule: mean ≥ 3.4 AND range ≤ 1.0 · Fix line: Your gains are now in the margins the eye can't catch — exactly what match video is for.
The Explorer
Early days. Every behaviour on this test is still up for grabs — that's the fun part.
Fastest possible improvement curve: three habits could move you a whole band.
Attacking from bad positions and treating the glass as an enemy.
Rule: mean ≤ 1.6 · Fix line: Just two habits this month: serve-and-walk-in, and return-in-play. Nothing else matters yet.
The Firework
Spectacular winners. Generous donations. Your highlight reel and your error count are both impressive.
You can finish — the overhead family is where pro winners come from too (~55% in the men's game).
~65% of club points end on unforced errors. Your fireworks are subsidised by giveaways.
Rule: FIN − EE ≥ 1.5 · Fix line: One rule for a month: never attack a ball below net height. Watch your matches get shorter.
The Wall
You never miss. You also never kill. Rallies go long, and somehow you're exhausted and level.
Error economy — the single strongest predictor of club match wins. Losing pairs donate double.
When the short ball comes, you put it back instead of away — so the point restarts.
Rule: EE − FIN ≥ 1.5 · Fix line: Earn the net behind your consistency, then take the finish: flat, parallel, in front of you.
The Baseline Mayor
Solid, safe, and permanently resident at the back of the court. The net is where other people live.
Defensive reliability — you keep balls in play that shouldn't come back.
~80% of points are won from the net zone, and you're never in it.
Rule: NC ≤ 2.0 AND EE ≥ 3.0 · Fix line: Serve, then walk in — every time, not when it feels safe. Two weeks. It will feel wrong. Do it anyway.
The Net Squatter
You take the net beautifully. Then one lob later, it's gone — and you've no route back.
Front-court instinct: volleys, presence, pressure.
Territory is rented — lobs win the net ~70% of the time, and you don't lob back.
Rule: NC ≥ 3.0 AND TR ≤ 2.0 · Fix line: Fall in love with the lob. Deep, on purpose, off both sides — it's the eviction notice you're missing.
The Freelancer
Every point starts as improvisation. Your rally game deserves a better opening act.
Mid-rally you're competitive — the chaos is all in the first four shots.
Serve without follow-in and returns in the net: free points donated before the rally exists.
Rule: SR ≤ 2.0 · Fix line: The serving pair wins 59.3% of points — but only if the serve buys the net. Serve, walk in, return deep. Boring wins.
The Grafter
Honest, competitive, improving — with one leak quietly taxing every match.
No catastrophic weakness: you're one habit away from the next band.
One pillar lags the rest — and at club level the lagging pillar is where the points go.
Rule: fallback · Fix line: Fix the lowest bar below. Just that one. A month of one habit beats a year of five.
The 4 bands
Everything ahead of you, nothing to apologise for.
Where most club players live — and where fixes pay fastest.
The habits are forming. Now it's about which ones hold under pressure.
The behaviours are installed. Your gains now come from precision inside them.
